Our Mission
Our mission is to build a dynamic global network of researchers, city and community leaders, and innovators committed to transforming their urban environments into living ecosystems.
The network aims to integrate interdisciplinary action research and best practices across urban studies, environmental science, social innovation and global governance. |
Our assumptions
A city is a living ecosystem made up of different organisations and the people who inhabit them. Cities are the most stable and constantly evolving social ecosystems, far outliving not only people, their organisations and communities, but also states, emerging and disappearing over the centuries.
A city serves as a meeting point for different cultural traditions, practices, and worldviews. The diverse linguistic and cultural fabric of the city enhances its resilience and adaptability to change. The ability to draw from a wide range of cultural practices and perspectives helps the city navigate challenges and seize opportunities in an interconnected world.
In this way, cities, rather than nations or states, can be a source of significant positive change and thriving for the nurturing of healthy populations and a thriving planet.
A living city is a place where people are supported in coming together to explore how they can use their own knowledge, power and potential in service of others and a regenerative future.
By 2030 two-thirds of the world will live in cities, but far more will live in cities of under 1 million, followed by those between 1 and 5 million.
By resourcing city innovators, empowering local decision-makers and fostering responsible stewardship, participatory governance, cross-sectoral and intercultural collaboration we can help to accelerate and amplify positive change.

Our approach
We are committed to networking global innovators and supporting regenerative change, particularly within global cities that have resident populations of between 100,000 to 1 million residents. We are passionate about empowering local leaders to not only know about all the great stuff that is going on worldwide, but to initiate their own on-the-ground activities and learn from each other.
